Meet Rosa Canina
Wild roses can make a beautiful 4-meter hedge in your garden; they bloom from May to July with large white, pink, and purple flowers and are very fast growing, needing only some shaping, but otherwise easy to grow.
If it has taken up residence in your home, or if you planted it intentionally, know that its resistance to frost and wind is inherited by its fruit.
It is not a fruit in the true sense of the word, but a composite of fruit ears. Rosehips contain vitamin C (second only to sea buckthorn), vitamin B, tannins, malic acid, citric acid, and minerals. It is diuretic, lowers cholesterol, and strengthens the body in general, mainly during colds, flu, convalescence, and avitaminosis. There is also information on its efficacy and its ability to stimulate sexual desire.
Harvest ripe in September and October. The color of the fruit is bright orange or red. Drying at temperatures up to 100°C (100°F) is optimal, and they should not spend too much time in the dryer to retain their vitamin C content. If placed in jars that can be sealed, they will usually last for a year.
The easiest way to make the famous rose hip tea is to soak the berries in cold water overnight. This way, there is no need to crush the rosehips or strain out the hairy germ. The next day, warm the infusion until it boils. It can be sweetened with honey. [Effective against inflammation, rheumatism, diarrhea, and coughs. Regulates intestinal flora. Place freshly picked petals in a jar, cover with cold-pressed olive oil, seal, and leave in a warm, sunny place for 3 weeks. Then drain the oil, squeeze out the leaves, and store the jar in a dark, cool place. Rose oil rejuvenates the skin and makes baths, etc., smell good.
Although you won\’t see the flowers outside now, a sprig of ripe rosehips in a vase is very decorative. Watch out for thorns!
