Making Handmade Soap
Transparent soap can be bought at art supply stores (or anywhere on the Internet). And that is the main thing you need. Did you think you would make it from scratch? That would not necessarily be the safest procedure. Use sodium hydroxide, which is corrosive. Boil a lump of it and let it age for a while to reduce its alkalinity.
One kilogram of such a substance costs about 150 CZK. This is a significant amount and should last up to a dozen products. It can then be colored with food coloring or purchased directly from soap dyes. This would resolve the ingredients to impress the eye. In any case, the right soap should also smell good. Thus, get some fragrance essence as well.
Then you will only need what you have at home to make it. That is, two pots, a water heater, and a ladle. The molds can be anything that is not too big and not too deep. It\’s not a good idea to pour the mass into a bowl, and you won\’t like the finished product yourself. So, either invest in a silicone mold with a nice design, or use a smaller box if you have one at home. Your imagination has no limits.
Cut a block of soap and melt it over a hot water bath. In case you forget and the soap hardens, you can use it again by adding water. Once dissolved, add the dye. However, be careful when handling it. The soap dye is very aggressive. Dried herbs can also be added for purely cosmetic purposes. Try anything you can think of. Some people add flowers, poppies, coffee beans or spices to their soaps. Of course, don\’t put them all in at once. Finish with fragrance essences.
Then just pour it into the mold and wait for it to harden. We recommend storing it in a cool room, such as a pantry. Do not put it in the refrigerator. Once it has hardened, take it out and decorate it as you wish. For example, you can decorate it with extra herbs and tie a nice ribbon. Handmade products make wonderful gifts for loved ones.
